National Non-revenue Water / Water Loss Assessment.There are 227 local and 8 metropolitan municipalities in South Africa in accordance with the
Municipal Infrastructure Investment Framework categorisation. The water resources situation in
these municipalities has been investigated over the past few years by the Department of Water
Affairs (DWA) and in each case water conservation and water demand management (WC/WDM)
has been identified as a key intervention to balance available supply against the projected future
demands. In order to make a proper assessment of the demand, a clear understanding of the
system input volume, water losses, non-revenue water (NRW) and efficiency is required.
